I Massively Regret Using AI to Cheat at Uni
"We had two deadlines really close together and I just ran out of steam," says Hannah, a university student.
In her desperation - and also suffering with Covid while facing the deadlines - she said she turned to artificial intelligence (AI) to help her write one of the essays. Hannah, not her real name, is now warning others about the potential consequences of using generative AI to cheat at university.
She faced an academic misconduct panel, who have the power to expel students found to be cheating.
Hannah's misuse of AI was discovered when her lecturer routinely scanned her essay using detection software.
Former Students Urged to Check for Loan Refunds
University graduates across the UK are being urged by a campaign group to check whether they are due a refund on their student loan repayment after it was revealed that nearly £200m was overpaid last year.
Save the Student's comments come after figures were published which show that hundreds of thousands of people currently paying off their loans are eligible for a share of £184m in refunds.
It is easy to check whether a refund is owed by logging on to the government's Student Loan Company portal, where individual refunds could range from tens of pounds to more than £1,000.
Why Are University Tuition Fees Going Up in England and Who Is Affected?
Tuition fees in England will rise to £9,535 in the next academic year (2025-26). The maximum universities can charge is £9,250, a cap since 2017.
Maintenance loans will also increase by up to £414 a year. Students can apply for loans to help cover their living costs and finance their tuition.
since only mid- to higher-earning people pay off the loan in full within 40 years, they will be the ones who bear the cost of the tuition increases. And he says the changes are trivial compared with moves by the previous government
